Stergios Prapavesis was born in Florina, Greece in 1961 and grew up in Thessaloniki, Greece. He attended a bilingual German high school (Deutsche Schule Thessaloniki).

In 1979 he was admitted to the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki Medical School after taking a national written test with success. After concluding his medical studies and getting his medical degree, he served in the army as a doctor with the Special Forces. Following a year in a country general practice as required by Greek law, he started his residency as a radiologist in Katerini General Hospital. He then went on to complete his residency in the Radiology Department of AHEPAN University Hospital of the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki.

After concluding his residency successfully, he worked for an HMO organization from 1996 to 1999 reaching the position of director of the radiology department. His work was instrumental in organizing a modern breast diagnosis department that examined more than 4000 women annually with both mammography and ultrasound.

In 1997 he started his own radiology practice. Ever since 1999 he has been working exclusively in his private practice.

As an active member of Echonet, a network of ultrasound professionals, he is participating as an instructor in Hands-On seminars on Ultrasound Technique for practitioners of various specialties taking place in Athens, Greece.*

He is editor and main author of: Breast Ultrasound and US Guided Interventions: A CD-ROM Multimedia Teaching File.

Research:
Clinical research for the Ultrasound Scanner firm B&K Medical (A subsidiary of Analogic Corporation). Evaluated B&K's latest Ultrasound Scanner Hawk 2102 and the newest breast probe 8811 for optimization of breast examination settings. Ongoing research subjects include the application of ultrasound-guidance in localization of microcalcification clusters and the benefits from the use of second harmonic techniques in diagnostic praxis.
