ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND


Ultrasound represents a major diagnostic tool for evaluation of the solid organs of the abdominal cavity, and of the fluid-filled organs like the gallbladder and vessels.

The liver, spleen, adrenals, the pancreas the large abdominal vessels (aorta, inferior vena cava and their major branches) can all be examined for pathology.

Abdomen-Sagittal scan over the aorta of an hypertensive patient-The diameter of the vessel increased abruptly from 17 to 22 mm, in what could well be the first stage in formation of an aneurysm. Follow up was recommended.

Ascites in a patient with chronic liver disease- Note shrunken cirrhotic liver with microlobulated contour.
